Great Britain before the Anglo-Saxons
Great Britain has been home to many people over the centuries. Around 2500 BC, the Beaker people immigrated to Britain from Spain and other parts of Europe. This is also around this time that the Stonehenge was believed to be built.

The Celts arrived between 2000 BC and 1200 BC, also from parts of Europe, fleeing from the Roman invasions. The Celts brought with them the knowledge of iron smelting and crafting, which allowed them to fashion weapons that superior to bronze.

The Romans came to Britain in 55 AD, led by Julius Caesar. As most of the Gauls from Europe were fleeing to Britain from the Roman expansion, Rome feared that Britain would be used as a base for counterattacks.
After the Romans left around 400 AD, turmoil back home in Rome forced Rome to pull its troops out of Britain. This meant that there was no one left to protect the lands from the invading Picts and Celts. So the British people hired mercenaries to help them stave off the attacks.
And that is where the story begins for the Anglo-Saxons.
